Iban Bemban - This video is about the Bemban or Arrowroot plant, used in traditional plaiting of the Iban people of Sarawak, East Malaysian Borneo. It begins at the Rumah Maul Iban longhouse in the Undup District of Sarawak. It shows Ibu Ronin harvesting the plant, cutting the reed into strips, and then plaiting the strips into mats. The mats are then crafted into fashionable baskets and purses in the Kraftangan Malaysia workshop in Kuching, Sarawak, under the direction of artist Katherine Senia Jugi.
